Tuesday morning there is breakfast, and the registration desk opens at 7:00 a.m. Exhibitors begin setting up their booths as we all start to gather in Azalea II & III for the Tuesday morning Business Session where we will hear part two of John Durham’s Economic Report for the Grocery Industry, a Mental Health Presentation from our friend Jacqueline DeMarco, and an Electric Vehicles Presentation from LaQuisha Buggs of Alabama Power. We will also have an update on legislative issues during this session. Tuesday after the Business Session, we will have our wholesaler and retailer networking hour before the Exhibit Hall opens to all attendees. Please take notice of this year’s new layout in the Exhibit Hall, improved to enhance everyone’s visit. This year the Best Bagger Competition returns at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening before the Chairman’s Banquet and Casino Night. Well, that is it for the 2023 Annual Show lineup. I hope you and your family/group enjoy our events and have gained some useful knowledge while you are here that can be used to give you an advantage in your business. I am very thankful to be a small part of the greatest industry in the world!

put together an excellent lineup of speakers and entertainers that I am sure you will enjoy.

Before I get into what is in store for this year’s Annual Show, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to our Convention Committee Chairman Jack Carlile, Ellie Taylor, Stephanie Crabtree and Tori O’Neal, our association staff, for all the time and effort they have put into making sure we all have a very educational and relaxing time while we are here. Looking at the schedule for this year, I once again see a fantastic lineup of “spot on” speakers and entertainers. Monday morning there is breakfast, the registration desk opens at 7:00 a.m., and exhibitors begin their booth set up, as we all start to gather in Azalea II & III for the Monday morning Business Session. This year’s speakers will not disappoint. Beginning with one of the giants in our industry, President and CEO of The Food Industry Association, Leslie Sarasin, will be talking to us about trends in our business. The Grocery Trends Update will be followed by part one of an Economic Report for the Grocery Industry from John Dunham and an Active Shooter Awareness Seminar from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department’s Sergeant Terrill Hogeland. Monday night we will have the Welcome Dinner, Silent Auction, and entertainment from the Compozitionz Band!

Be safe on the journey home.

God bless you, your family, and the AGA.

Sincerely, Harold Garrett Harold Garrett Chairman Alabama Grocers Association

Welcome to the 2023 AGA Annual Show! We are so happy to have you here to celebrate the grocery industry with us! A special thanks to our Board of Directors and Board of Trustees for their hard work to make this convention so successful. Our

name a few. Legislative accomplishments during this time include the INFORM Act, civil immunity for COVID-19, curbside and home delivery of alcohol, wine shipment, reformed Sunday sales of alcohol, laws protecting stores on service animals, and, last but certainly not least, the reduction of state sales tax on groceries. While you are here, please join me in thanking Harold for all of his hard work and accomplishments as AGA Chairman and take advantage of all that our Annual Show has to offer by attending all of the Business Sessions, Exhibit Hall and night events. This convention is designed for our members, and I hope that it will be very beneficial for you and your businesses. AGA has always been a wonderful family of members, and we hope you enjoy your time together.

Ellie Taylor Alabama Grocers Association AGA Convention Chairman Jack Carlile and his committee have done an excellent job on the details of this event, and we cannot thank them enough for their support. At this year’s Annual Business Meeting, Harold Garrett will turn the gavel over to our Vice Chairman, Bob Crawford. Bob has been a constant supporter of the AGA, and we all look forward to seeing him excel as Chairman. Harold has done an excellent job serving our association as Chairman and, despite the pandemic, kept us on track for the last four years. During his tenure, the association gave 171 scholarships, worked with Alabama WIC to roll out eWIC, started the AGA Health & Welfare Trust, partnered with ACCS Innovation Center for Meat Cutter Curriculum, and raised over $879,000 for the association through our annual conference - just to

Grab your dancing shoes on Monday, July 10th at 7:30 p.m. to watch Diesel, Xion, Jericho, D-lew and Bishop, collectively known as COMPOZITIONZ. With an explosive chemistry that cannot be duplicated, COMPOZITIONZ has fused rhythm and blues, gospel, jazz and classical genres of music and created a blend that will leave you captivated. COMPOZITIONZ deeply felt that something real and true was missing in music, something that was faintly there but smothered by the weight of pyro-technics and vocal synthesizers. So with strong, southern-root based voices, armed with steps inspired by the mighty Temptations, while being compared to the original five, COMPOZITIONZ launched themselves into a whole new era of their musical undertaking. Their energy, dynamic choreography, and impeccable sound is guaranteed to make the crowd roar and embrace the rebirth of Popular/Soul music.
