Engage. Inspire. Prepare.
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I want to thank you for all the support you provide our schools and the students of Paulding County. I would also like to thank our athletes, coaches, boosters, and families for their commitment to our extracurricular programs. Through extracurricular athletics our students have a platform where they can demonstrate their skills and talents, and in many ways the life lessons they gain, and the bonds they form, are a perfect complement to the academic instruction they receive in the classroom.
The vision of the Paulding County School District is to “Prepare students for success, today and tomorrow,” and extracurricular activities are a vital component of that preparation. Studies have shown that students who learn the lessons of competition along with the structure and discipline of being part of a team, often have a head start on attaining success later in life. Extracurricular activities also help build a sense of community and can play a major role in the culture of a school. Good sportsmanship is a combination of responsibilities, attitudes, and behaviors that demonstrate respect, integrity, and fairness in sports and competition. Here are a few reminders on responsibilities and respect. Responsibility. Acknowledge mistakes and take responsibility for your actions, whether positive or negative. Encourage and support teammates, understanding that individual success is tied to the success of the team. Lead by example, inspiring others with your dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship both on and off the field. A good sportsman represents their school in a positive light, understanding that their actions on and off the field reflect on the institution they belong to. Prioritize the safety of all participants and avoid overly aggressive or reckless behavior that may lead to injury. Respect. Show respect toward your opponent regardless of the outcome of the competition. Display humility in victory, avoiding excessive celebration or gloating. Similarly, show resilience and dignity in defeat, accept the results with composure and as a learning opportunity. Respect the authority of coaches and officials, communicating disagreements with civility. Respect the rules and adhere to the spirit of the game. Never cheat, intentionally break the rules, or try to gain an unfair advantage over your opponent. Thank you again for your support, and I hope that all our students and their families have a wonderful 2023-2024 school year! Sincerely,
Steve Barnette Superintendent

RAIDERS
PRINCIPAL
Welcome Raider Fans and Guests,
It is with great Pride that I welcome you to the 2023 season of Raider Football, athletics, and academics here at East Paulding High School. This year we look forward to finding more success as we continue to advance our programs. On and off the playing field, the students, faculty, and staff of the Raider Nation meet success through hard work and perseverance. We are very excited to welcome everyone to our 2023 athletic season. Our coaches and athletes have a lot to be excited about.
The East Paulding Coaching staff and faculty are devoted to offering students quality programs grounded in the development of knowledge, skills, character, and confidence. It is our hope that these principles are evident in all that we do. We are also thankful for all of our parents who work in the various booster clubs to raise the needed monies to allow our students to have the best equipment and uniforms. You are appreciated! Many thanks to our coaches who spend many hours of their own time to ensure that East Paulding Athletics are respected throughout our area. I appreciate your hard work and dedication. I sincerely thank you for coming out to support the East Paulding Raiders. I hope that you enjoy the game and look forward to seeing you at other East Paulding High School events.
Brad Thomason Principal
RAIDERS
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR I welcome you to the 2023 football season at the Bone Yard! Friday nights offer communities a traditional time and place to congregate and support their students. A shift to positive behavior by spectators must occur if officials are going to be retained. There is a big difference between fans and fanatics. Fans support the officials, the players, and the coaches, unlike fanatics who tear down and do harm to the participants, the school, and the community. The proliferation of social media platforms has made it easy for fanatics to post messages that they would never say in a face-to-face setting. We want adults to use social media to help and not hurt students, coaches and officials involved in high school sports. Help do your part to make the 2023 season a success! Although academics are our #1 priority, extracurricular activities assist with building teamwork, fair play, sportsmanship, self-esteem, and school spirit. We must intentionally give students experiences that are about more than just the game and instead are relevant to real life. The goal is to operate a program at its highest level with the belief that great teams will follow. Student-Athletes will leave East Paulding a Champion for Life!
If you are a parent attending a high school athletic event this fall, you can help by following these guidelines:
· Act Your Age. You are, after all, an adult. Act in ways that makes your family and school proud. · Do Not Live Your Life Vicariously Through Your Children. High school sports are for them, not you. · Your family’s reputation is not determined by how well your children perform on the field of play. · Let Your Children Talk to the Coach Instead of You Doing It for Them. High school athletes learn how to become more confident, independent, and capable—but only when their parents don’t jump in and solve their problems for them. · Stay in Your Own Lane. No coaching or officiating from the sidelines. Your role is to be a responsible, supportive parent—not a coach or official. · Remember, participating in a High School Sport Is Not About Getting a College Scholarship. According to the NCAA, only about two percent of all high school athletes are awarded a sports scholarship, and the total value of the scholarship is only about $18,000. · Make Sure Your Children Know You Love Watching Them Play. Do not critique your child’s performance on the
car ride home. Participating in high school sports is about character · development, learning and having fun—not winning and losing.
You can have a major influence on your child’s attitude about academics and athletics. The leadership role you take will help influence your child and our community in the future. We look forward a tremendous year in athletics and sportsmanship in all the East Paulding High School activities. We appreciate your support!
