ALL WRAPPED Up! Inspiration from 6 Local Stylemakers By Catherine Campbell photos by chris granger

P resentation matters and a beautifully wrapped gift, complete with personal touches, plays a starring role during the holiday season. For inspiration and tips, we've asked six local artists and stylemakers to share ideas about what makes gift wrap special. We're all in agreement: suspense and the surprise element are a major part of the fun and taking the time to create something unique makes a great first impression.

I've designed New Orleans-themed wrapping papers that are printed in Louisiana. The magnolia is one of my favorites. The neutral design can be dressed up in so many ways. For these, I've tied a hand-painted wooden ornament by local artist Lorraine Gendron to each package. I believe that Southern-based artists have a story to tell and the presentation of the gift should be just as thoughtful.

SUSAN ZACKIN Z Event Company

As event designers, we pride ourselves on creativity, detail and style. A uniquely wrapped gift offers a preview of what may be inside and causes excited anticipation by both the giver and receiver. With handmade silk paper and custom flowers by local artist Jacquie Hood, these decorated boxes can be kept long after the gift is opened.
