Silver and white bugle beads in varying shades and sizes were hand sewn on the appliqués. Golden shadow Swarovski crystals were used to define the plume's shaft. Untold hours of intricate handwork go into the old world craft of hand beading, which is a couture element still revered in New Orleans.
