Mid Century MODERN By Katy Danos M id-century modern is the catchall phrase for the decorative style that dominated American design from the 1930's to the 1960's. It's a broad term used for furniture, color trends, and the decorative tastes of a post-war population fueled by optimism, change, and innovation. With a palette of warm wood, burnished brass, and rich strokes of saturated color and a philosophy of form which follows function, the looks have stood the test of time. The design movement peaked in the fifties, but the high quality workmanship and pared down shapes were built to last.
