As Trudy points out, "this house with its millwork, moldings, and finishes would be gorgeous even if empty, but Andrew and Susu both have a stylish way of mixing things up which brings a relaxed vibe to all of the rooms." The living rooms and hall are coated in Benjamin Moore's sophisticated neutral, Grant Beige, at full and half strength, which allows the vibrant art to take center stage. In the parlor, the color cue comes from the exquisite 18th century rock amethyst chandelier from Soniat House Hotel and Antiques. The room features a black marble fireplace which is original to the house, aubergine Fortuny drapery and a pair of sofas dressed in mushroom velvet. A knockout abstract landscape by Alison Stewart is the perfect counterpoint to the dramatic French gilt

"We wanted to honor the history and craftsmanship of the house for sure, but we also wanted to keep it fresh and lively. Andrew and I both love to entertain, as do our kids, so an inviting floor plan and extremely comfortable furnishings are key. We use every inch of this house, including the pool house. It was important to us that our large extended families and our kids and their friends would want to hang out here and trust me they do," says Susu with that kind of knowing grin that comes from being almost across the finish line of raising four kids in a home you truly love. With renowned architect Caroline Ferguson on board, the Stalls set about opening walls and adding bathrooms, a kitchen, French doors galore, and a pool. Interior designer Trudy Hurley assisted with the fabric and furnishing selections; full-scale upholstered furniture in durable fabrics provide the perfect balance to
