L ight on the travel plans this spring and summer? Lucky for you, the vibrant arts scene inNewOrleans offers plenty of opportunities for entertainment. Plus, with amazing hotels and world-class restaurants, you can plan a relaxing staycation in your own city. For Saturday fun, stroll through the open-air Arts Market at Palmer Park and let the unique pieces catch your eye. Here you’ll find everything from handmade clothing and jewelry to photography and ceramics. Held on the last Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this gathering of local artists is accompanied by live music and local food vendors. Gather your friends and make a day of it! Cinco de Mayo plans? Jammin’ on Julia, the annual festival benefitting the Arts District New Orleans, falls on Saturday, May 5th this year. Live painters, public sculptures, and a light project installation by Brennan Steele will line the 300-500 blocks of Julia Street. With a bar on each block, live music, and local gallery art, festival-goers can expect a spirited atmosphere at this free-admission event.

art, and performances. Speaking of performances, you can catch The Nola Project’s production of The Three Musketeers at the sculpture garden between May 9th and May 27th. The local ensemble will be performing a humorous adaptation by playwright Pete McElligott. While you’re at the museum, be sure to check out the Lee Friedlander American Musicians exhibit. Best known for his work with Atlantic Records, Lee Friedlander took promotional portraits from the mid- 1950s through the 1970s, resulting in a number of album covers for various music genres. In between all the art-going, plan a staycation in your own city. Check into the Windsor Court Hotel for an elegant retreat and use their Suite Spring promotion that includes a $50 credit per night towards food, beverages, parking, or spa services. Make a point to visit the hotel’s new pool bar. A nod to the centuries old bar outside Windsor Castle, Waterman’s Pool Side Bar is the perfect place to grab a local beer or frozen drink while enjoying the rooftop pool and deck. If you’re limited on vacation days or just feel like staying at home this summer, rest easy. An art-filled adventure in your own city awaits.
