of that, the King of Aram expressed intense displeasure. The fact that Elisha supernaturally informed the king of Israel of enemy plans, “Enraged the king of Aram. He summoned his officers and demanded of them,‘Tell me!Which of us is on the side of the king of Israel?’” (2 Kings 6:11). He thought there was a mole in their midst. His officers informed him, however, it was the prophet Elisha who was able to discern the king’s moves. Learning of this, he responded, “‘Go, find out where he is,’ the king ordered,‘so I can send men and capture him,’ The report came back:‘He is in Dothan.’Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there.They went by night and surrounded the city.” (2 Kings 6:13,14). Dothan, located 30 miles north of Jerusalem, is mentioned only one other time in the Bible. It was the place where Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers (Genesis 37:17). Seeing that enemy forces had surrounded the city, Elisha’s servant asked, “Oh no my Lord!What shall we do?” (2 Kings 6:15). Now that sounds familiar. “Oh no,” the ax head fell into the water, Naaman has leprosy, there’s death in the pot, my husband is dead and I have nothing, we have no water, the water is bad, your master is leaving, my son has died, I don’t have any bread, and it hasn’t rained in three and a half years. We’ve encountered every one of these crises in this book and without exception, God provided deliverance.
