As Scripture commands, “Guard your steps as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools” (Ecclesiastes 5:1). Make what is often the most neglected part of prayer your most rewarding and anticipated. Early African converts to Christianity were rigorous and regular in their private prayer times. Each one reportedly had a particular place in the brush where they would plead before God. Eventually, the paths to these spots became clearly worn. Consequently, if one of the believers became negligent in their devotions, the others would soon notice. They would then lovingly remind the lax one, “Brother, the grass grows on your path.” 6 Keep your path to God well-worn. Maintain constant contact, discovering the necessity and joy of “praying without ceasing.”
