Yet, understand: a sudden return does not mean a subtle return. Quickly won’t be quietly. God’s Son came silently and humbly the first time to a sleepy village outside Jerusalem. Except for a few shepherds and magi, everyone missed it. Such will not be the case when He reappears gloriously , as the following descriptions indicate.  Clouds will transport Him from Heaven to earth. (Matthew 24:30)  The archangel will announce His coming. (1 Thessalonians 4:16)  Angels and fire will accompany His entourage. (2 Thessalonians 1:7)  A cavalry of angels and saints will join Him. (Revelation 19:14) Taking on the throne of Israel, King David proceeded to conquer Jerusalem and rout the Philistines. He then brought the ark of God to the capital city. Returning to Jerusalem victoriously with the ark, David and the house of Israel joyously commemorated the triumph. “Dancing before the LORD with all his might . . . with shouting and the sound of the trumpet” (2 Samuel 6:14,15) , the people gloriously celebrated. Likewise, Christ’s return will involve majestic extravaganza. Observe that He will come back victoriously as well. As the great tribulation draws to its furious and fatal close, with Jerusalem’s future hanging in the balance and the Antichrist creating continual deception and destruction, the Lord will answer the prayers of a repentant remnant by coming to launch a final assault of war and judgment. “From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty” (Revelation 19:15).
