pastor decided to visit a non-attending member of his church who had once come regularly. Since it was a very cold day, the preacher found the man sitting by a blazing fire when he entered the house. The pastor sat in a chair gazing at the burning logs, but said nothing. Several minutes later, the visitor took fire tongs and removed a bright orange ember from the pile of glowing logs, placing it alone at one side of the hearth. The host watched quietly as the once fiery piece of wood dimmed into cold grayness. With not a word spoken since the initial greetings, the minister glanced at his watch and rose to leave. On his way out, he placed the cooling wood back in the middle of the fire. Immediately, it began to burn and glow like the wood around it.
