What is the most eccentric thing you love about New Orleans?

"To-go drinks."

"The costume culture – dressing up for anything and everything!"

"Everything is a cause for celebration, be it a birthday, holiday, a food group, a funeral…"

"The Mardi Gras Krewes keep getting weirder and I'm here for it."

"The pronunciation of street names. When friends from out-of town come in and I'm talking about street names, I can tell they want to correct me when I say My-lan and Cally-ope."

N ew Orleans has several neighborhoods, each with its own distinct personality and characteristics. Here are a few to check out during your visit: THE GARDEN DISTRICT – known for its beautiful historic homes with well-maintained gardens – is the perfect place to walk, shop, and dine. BAYOU ST. JOHN offers greenspace, neighborhood restaurants and bars, and hosts Jazz Fest at the Fairgrounds. MID CITY, located in the center of the city, is brimming with New Orleans charm and local shops.Lastly, head to the BYWATER for a stroll through art studios, dive bars, and unique eateries.

What advice would you give to a visitor to get the real feel of the city?

"Don't be shy - talk to locals!"

"Use the Desaix entrance at Jazz Fest."

"Get out of the French Quarter and experience the other neighborhoods."

"Drink a little too much. Read a little Tennessee Williams. Leave your biases at the door."

Favorite place to take out-of-town guests?

"Anywhere with oysters!"

"Talk to the bartenders, don't read Yelp reviews, go off the beaten path, read about the restaurant you're eating at, take your time, go to the Cabildo for the Katrina and Rex exhibits, engage, and tip well."

"City Park Botanical Garden."

"Dining on the lake."

"Frenchman – Great music and great food all within walking distance."

"Commander's Palace – The way the staff greets their patrons always impresses me and my guests…everyone is welcomed with that little something extra."

"We have a vibrant Vietnamese community here. I'd take them to my favorite spot, Lilly's Café."
