His explanation is simple: “I like to live decent.”The problem is, his “decent” lifestyle has cost NewYork taxpayers more than $250,000. 491 If it’s decent living you’re after, nothing compares to a life centered in the will of God. As far as fine dining goes, nothing comes close to the celebratory supper that will occur in conjunction with Christ’s Second Coming (Revelation 19:7- 10). But since a ceremony takes place before the reception, let’s first discuss the marriage of the Lamb. As the Bible says, “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready” (Revelation 19:7). Since we discussed this in Chapter 9, I won’t go into great detail here. It’s worth repeating, however, that earthly matrimony is the closest thing in time that symbolizes the future, eternal joining of Christ and the church. Jesus’ forerunner, John the Baptist said, “You yourselves are my witnesses that I said,‘I am not the Christ,’ but ‘I have been sent ahead of Him.’“He who has the bride is the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full” (John 3:28-29). So, if John is the best man and Jesus is the groom; that makes us, Christ’s Church, the bride. Paul picked up on this by writing to one of his churches, “For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin” (2 Corinthians 11:2). When this ceremony does take place, our purity will have nothing to do with our own deeds, but rather the righteousness of Christ. Of course a wedding needs a reception, which brings us to the joyous celebration to follow, the marriage supper of the Lamb, a feast that stands in stark contrast to the “great supper of God” mentioned in chapter eight.
