viewed the tape, Jesus tosses it aside and says, “Away from Me, I never knew you.”Why the rejection? Because the person relied solely on his/her own performance to get into heaven. That’s the way it will be for those who are judged during the great white throne judgment. They’re rejected because their works fail to meet the rigorous standards of Christ. Isaiah said, “All our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment” (Isaiah 64:6), a spiritual truth which is nowhere more applicable than for the lost person on judgment day. I heard a story recently about a singer named Ruth Metzger, who was called upon to sing at the wedding of a very wealthy man. The invitation stated that the reception would take place on the top two floors of Seattle’s Columbia Tower, the tallest building in Northwest America. At the reception, tuxedoed waiters served delicious hors d’oeuvres and exotic drinks. As the bride and groom made their way to a breathtaking glass and brass staircase that led to the top floor, someone cut a satin ribbon that hung across the bottom of the stairs. The couple began their ascent, followed by the guests, as the feast was formally announced. At the top, a maitre d’ with book in hand welcomed guests outside the doors. “May I have your name please?” “I am Ruthanna Metzger and this is my husband, Roy.” He scanned the M’s. “I’m not finding it.Would you spell it please?” Ruth spelled it out carefully. Sadly, after searching his list again, the gentleman said, “I’m sorry, but your name isn’t here.” “There must be some mistake,” Ruth replied. “I’m the singer. I sang for this wedding!”
