of being a unifier, the Antichrist will arrange a peace treaty between Israel and its Arab enemies. As a result of this manu- factured mood of euphoria, the Jews will rebuild their sacred temple, after which they will reinstitute their sacrificial system. “But, in the middle of the week (tribulation) he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate” (Daniel 9:27). Referring to these prophetic words from Daniel, Jesus said, “For there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will” (Matthew 24:21). That said, just like the bogus treaty that initiated the first half of the tribulation, this blatant act of blasphemy will ig- nite the second. As Daniel reveals, the Antichrist shows his true colors by putting an end to Jewish sacrifices and offerings. And he won’t stop there, as the apostle Paul writes, “Let no one in any way deceive you, for it (Christ’s Second Coming), will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness (Antichrist) is revealed , the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god of object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God” (2Thessalonians 2:3-4). In addition to this, “He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations of times in the law, and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time ” (Daniel 7:25, empha- sis added). If you’re wondering how that last phrase translates into three and one half years, note these words from John’s vision: “There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, an authority to act for forty-two months was given to him” (Revelation 13:5).
