Observe next supplication , which means “to ask humbly and earnestly,” is the human response to God’s grace. Whether or not these are among “the rest” giving glory to God between the sixth and seventh trumpet (Revelation 11:13) is not clear. What is for certain, however, is that a large number from a people who rejected Christ as Messiah throughout the ages are now weeping and mourning in repentant supplication. As a result of the devastation of the battle and the regen- eration of His people, God orchestrates the culmination of Armageddon by sending his Son Jesus to the earth a second time. Since I’m devoting the entire next chapter to this key tenet of the Christian faith, I’ll limit the discussion here to the following: The final assault— Just when it looks as though the forces of evil are about to win out over God, Jesus Christ re- turns to the earth to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Asthe Old Testament records, “He will mount up and swoop like an eagle and spread out His wings against Bozrah; and the hearts of the mighty men of Edom in that day will be like the heart of a woman in labor” (Jeremiah 49:22). Later, through a minor prophet, the Lord said: “In that day I will set about to destroy the nations that come against Jerusalem” (Zechariah 12:9) – and when He strikes the enemy, “Their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth (Zechariah 14:12). At this stage of the battle, an angel will cry out to the birds in flight, “Come, assemble for the great supper of God” (Revela- tion 19:17) which will be a buffet featuring the flesh of enemy men and horses destroyed in battle. I was distracted while driving recently as two ominous looking vultures feasted on road kill. Yet as grotesque as it was, it’s nothing compared to the feeding frenzy that’s going to take place at Armageddon.
