steve barnette Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I want to thank you for all the sup port you provide our schools and the students of Paulding County. I would also like to thank our athletes, coaches, boosters, and families for their com mitment to our extracurricular programs. Through extracurricular athletics our students have a platform where they can demonstrate their skills and talents, and in many ways the life lessons they gain, and the bonds they form, are a perfect complement to the academic instruction they receive in the classroom.

The vision of the Paulding County School District is to “Prepare students for success, today and tomorrow,” and extracurricular activities are a vital component of that preparation. Studies have shown that students who learn the lessons of competition along with the structure and discipline of being part of a team, often have a head start on attaining success later in life, and that fits neatly with our educational vision. Teamwork and sports manship are values students will carry with them wherever they go. Another attribute of extracurricular activities is that they help build a sense of community by bolstering school pride. Our athletic teams play a major role in fostering a positive environment and strengthening the sense of pride we feel when our schools take the field. As we do each year, I want to challenge you to: • Treat athletics as part of the educational experience and realize the benefits of extracurricular involvement go far beyond the final score of the game. • Encourage our students to perform their best on the field, just as we would in the classroom. • Participate in positive cheers that encourage our student athletes, and discourage anything that redirects that focus, including taunting and intimidating our opponents, their fans, and/or the officials. • Learn, understand, and respect the rules of the game, the officials who administer them, and their decisions. • Respect the role our coaches serve as teachers and support them as they strive to educate our youth. • Respect the student athletes on the other side of the field and cheer for them as they strive to do their best. • Develop a sense of dignity and civility in all circumstances.

Thank you again for your support, and I hope that all our students and their families have a wonderful 2022-2023 school year!

Sincerely, Steve Barnette, Superintendent

Thank you so much for supporting our fall program. We are ex cited about kicking off this year and know our students and fall program participants are as well. We have so many positives that occur daily on campus, it is excellent that this booklet showcases some of that positivity. I would like to thank all those that participate and are a part of our programs as well as those that support them. Thank you to those that have helped

produce this publication and those that have and are supporting this publication. We have an amazing community that expects excellence, and we are excited anytime we have the opportunity to display that excellence. I have been in education since 2004. Newly out of Florida A & M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Education, I began my educational career in Palm Beach Gardens, Flori da at Palm Beach Gardens High School. After a rewarding yet brief stint in Florida teaching Theatre and Reading, I was led to South Paulding High School where I continued my educa tional and professional growth. I am a proud “ground breaker” of South Paulding High School and have been here since it opened its doors to the youth of Paulding County in 2006. I en joyed multiple years of teaching 9th Grade Literature and coaching basketball. During this time, I acquired my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia. I have been able to serve as an administrator here since 2012. I have been blessed with the opportunity and the responsibility to make a positive impact on SPHS and the sur rounding community now in the role of Principal. In addition to my South Paulding family, is my wonderful wife and biggest supporter Cas sandra. When not at South we enjoy traveling, socializing with King, our dog, and spend ing time with family. Education has opened many doors for me and has been a bridge to a plethora of destinations. My hope and passion is to build as many bridges as I can to help those that walk through South Paulding’s doors reach their own meaning and expectations of success.

tatiana barnes-blanton - head coach Coach Blanton has been a member of the Spartan community since 2016, when she accepted a teaching job at South Paulding High School and has been loving every minute since. She currently works at Nebo Elementary as an EBD Teacher, but loves her South Paulding family so much, she could not say goodbye to them or the cheer program. Her favorite thing about coaching is being able to work with young athletes and being able to help them build character and form lifelong relationships. She also enjoys helping the cheerleaders work on their technique and the skills needed to get them to the next level. Coach Blanton’s coaching goal this year and every year is to help all her cheerleaders learn to make the most out of every second this world has to offer and to smile while doing so! taylor kincaid - varsity coach This is Coach Kincaid’s fifth year coaching cheerleading at South.
