Superintendent
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! I want to thank you for all the support you provide our schools and the students of Paulding County. I would also like to thank our athletes, coaches, boosters, and families for their commitment to our extracurricular programs. Through extracurricular athletics our students have a platform where they can demonstrate their skills and talents, and in many ways the life lessons they gain, and the bonds they form, are a perfect complement to the academic instruction they receive in the classroom. The vision of the Paulding County School District is to “Prepare students for success, today and tomorrow,” and extracurricular activities are a vital component of that preparation. Studies have shown that students who learn the lessons of competition
along with the structure and discipline of being part of a team, often have a head start on attaining success later in life. Extracurricular activities also help build a sense of community and can play a major role in the culture of a school. Good sportsmanship is a combination of responsibilities, attitudes, and behaviors that demonstrate respect, integrity, and fairness in sports and competition. Here are a few reminders on responsibilities and respect. Responsibility. Acknowledge mistakes and take responsibility for your actions, whether positive or negative. Encourage and support teammates, understanding that individual success is tied to the success of the team. Lead by example, inspiring others with your dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship both on and off the field. A good sportsman represents their school in a positive light, understanding that their actions on and off the field reflect on the institution they belong to. Prioritize the safety of all participants and avoid overly aggressive or reckless behavior that may lead to injury. Respect. Show respect toward your opponent regardless of the outcome of the competition. Display humility in victory, avoiding excessive celebration or gloating. Similarly, show resilience and dignity in defeat, accept the results with composure and as a learning opportunity. Respect the authority of coaches and officials, communicating disagreements with civility. Respect the rules and adhere to the spirit of the game. Never cheat,
intentionally break the rules, or try to gain an unfair advantage over your opponent. Thank you again for your support, and I hope that all our students and their families have a wonderful 2025-2026 school year!
Sincerely,
Steve Barnette Superintendent
Principal
We are excited as always for the start of school and our Fall Programs. We have so much to offer our students. This program does an excellent job celebrating our Fall Season. I have been in education since 2004. I am a proud graduate of Florida A & M University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Theatre-Education, I began my educational career in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, at Palm Beach Gardens High School. After a rewarding yet
brief stint in Florida teaching Theatre and Reading, I was led to South Paulding High School, where I continued my educational and professional growth. I am a proud “ground breaker” of South Paulding High School and have been a Spartan since SPHS opened its doors to the youth of Paulding County in 2006. I enjoyed multiple years of teaching ELA and coaching basketball. I later acquired my Masters and Specialist degrees from the University of West Georgia. I have been able to serve as an administrator here since 2012. I have been blessed with the opportunity and the responsibility to make a positive impact on SPHS and the surrounding community, now in the role of Principal. In addition to my South Paulding family, I have my wonderful wife and biggest supporter, Cassandra, and my son William. When not at South, we enjoy traveling, socializing with King, our dog, and spending time with family. Education has opened many doors for me and has been a bridge to a plethora of destinations. My hope and passion are to build as many bridges as I can to help those who walk through South Paulding’s doors reach their meaning and expectations of success.
Edward R. Thomas Principal

JUNIOR CHEER DIRECTOR
My name is Amanda Hollis and this is my 3rd year as the Junior Spartans Cheer Director and my 5th year being on the South Side. I have been married to Seth for 16 years and have one daughter, Kaelyn, who is on the Varsity Cheer team. Cheer has been a part of my life since I can remember and I love everything about the sport. Being able to serve our community through these young ladies has been a pleasure and I have enjoyed being able to watch these babies grow, not only as cheerleaders, but as leaders and young women. I am honored to be a part of the program for another year and I am looking forward to the 2025-2026 season. Go South!
Amanda Hollis
JUNIOR CHEER CO-DIRECTOR
My name is Tasha Lively and I’m excited to learn from and share a role with Amanda as Co-Director this year for our Junior Spartans! I have been married to Erick for 16 years and a mother of our two girls, Taegan and Payton who fell in love with this sport 4 years ago. This is our second year cheering as a Spartan and we love it. I am a devoted Christian and find guidance and strength through God. I’m excited to work alongside each one this year supporting our coaches in helping our athletes excel in their goals! I strive to inspire all beginning with myself to continue growing not only in cheer, but as individuals prepared for success on and off the mat. I’m honored to be a part of this journey!

6TH GRADE COACH
Hi, I’m Emily Barnett! I’m proud to be the 6th Grade Junior Spartans Cheer Coach and the JV Cheer Coach at South Paulding High School. This is my third year coaching, but my love for cheer began when I was just six years old. Outside of cheer, I’m a first-year teacher at Baggett Elementary, and I’m excited to be getting married this May! Coaching is one of my greatest passions, and I can’t wait to watch our athletes grow and shine this season.
Emily Barnett 7TH GRADE COACH
I’m Coach Ashley. This is my second year coaching sideline. I have over 15 years of experience in cheerleading. Cheerleading has been such a big part of my life, and I love helping my athletes grow in their skills, confidence, and teamwork. I recently married my husband, who I’ve been with for six years, and we share our home with our dog, Axel, and our cat, Luggy. When I’m not at practice, I’m working toward my teaching degree at the University of West Georgia, combining my love for leading and learning both on and off the sidelines. I’m so excited for this season and to watch these girls grow!

8TH GRADE COACH
Hello! I am Coach Gracie and I have the pleasure of coaching the 8th grade sideline team this year. This will be my third year as a middle school coach. I am 21 years old and a Senior at Life University graduating in September 2025 with my B.S. in Psychology. At Life University, I spent three years on the Competitive cheerleading team. While being on the cheerleading team, I have also been recognized for academic awards and having a 3.5 GPA. I have been cheering since I was 3 and have much experience in the cheer world. When I am not at cheer, you can find me going on food dates with my boyfriend, and binge watching new shows on Netflix. I am so excited for this year and can’t wait to see what the future holds. GO SPARTANS!!

COMPETITION COACH
Hey everyone! I’m Coach Kailey! This is my second year coaching the Junior Spartans competition cheerleading team. I graduated from Paulding County High School in 2018 after cheering on the Varsity sidelines and competition team all 4 years. I have cheered on sidelines and competition teams from 4 years old to 19 years old. Along with rec/school cheer, I also cheered competitively for the C4 Longhorns for 4 seasons. I graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2022 and received my masters degree from Liberty University in 2024. When I’m not at cheer practice, I am typically shopping or hanging out with friends and family! I’m so excited to watch my girls grow this season. Go Spartans!
