THS HISTORY

Temple played its first football game on September 17, 1988. Dreams had became a reality. The first Temple team played a JV Schedule and was undefeated. Temple had no football field, and from 1988 through 1991 home games were played at Villa Rica, Central or Mt. Zion. A group of dedicated Temple supporters, led by THS principal Denzil Rogers, worked tirelessly laying sod, tying rebar, driving dump trucks and frontend loaders to make the dream of Temple Football Stadium become a reality. The stadium was completed in 1992, and the first home game was played on October 23rd, 1992. That night the stadium was named Rogers Stadium in honor of Denzil Rogers, who dared to dream, plan, build and achieve. Not only did the Temple Community of parents, teachers and supporters build the stadium, they also raised money to pay for it. They spent countless hours working a concession stand at Atlanta Braves games, selling raffle tickets and holding other fundraisers. This football season marks the 31st anniversary of this accomplishment. Rogers Stadium is truly an example of a school and community working together to achieve a goal.
