Thanks for picking up your copy of The Purple Book! You will find a lot of valuable information on these pages that will hopefully give insight to the many offerings provided to the community. We look forward to seeing you in the coming months as we usher in cooler weather. Youth football & cheer, softball & baseball, and soccer games will start in September. We want to thank all our volunteers and parents and wish our youngsters a fun-filled and memorable season ahead of them. There are many new programs listed in the guide so pay special attention to the Save the Date page. The recreation department staff continues to diligently work to bring new ideas and activities for the family to enjoy. Even though we are just entering the fall sports season, youth basketball registration is set to start on October 2nd. Make a big note somewhere so you don’t miss it. The registration time frame has a start date and an end date and will be strictly adhered to. The Villa Rica Senior Center is a gathering place for active adults ages 55 and older. BINGO is a popular activity on Monday mornings. Fitness activities, card games, pool, and pickleball are other weekly activities. The Villa Rica Public Library offers many educational and fun activities for families. On September 18th at 5pm, teens ages 12-17 can tie-dye a t-shirt.

GOALS ·To provide safe and clean parks, greenspaces, and facilities · To provide a variety of recreation and leisure services that create healthy living opportunities for families and residents of all ages · To partner with citizens and community groups in order to enhance the quality of life of those living in or visiting Villa Rica ·To preserve, enhance, and promote our parks as an essential element of the overall economic health and viability of our city

Sign up now at the library. Call your local library and ask about the Play Card, as well as all the benefits your library card has for you. We hope that everyone had a great summer and that kids are making their mark in the class room. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Warmly,

Tracie Ivey Parks & Recreation Director

Whether you’ve just moved to Villa Rica, or are a lifelong resident, this book is your guide to the many recreational activities available here. From a modern library to baseball fields and basketball courts – as well as parks for walking, biking, or running – the city provides something for everyone, no matter how old or how young. The Villa Rica Public Library is a member of PINES and the West Georgia Regional Library System. It’s a modern facility that not only features state-of-the-art reference materials but also weekly activities to help school students and parents keep their minds active and learning. But to keep you physically active, there are nine recreational facilities spread across the city, available to every neighborhood. This book will help you learn about the various athletic programs, such as soccer, cheerleading, football, softball, and youth basketball, as well as tennis courts, and classes for karate, yoga, gymnastics for kids, and other fitness activities. And there are lots for seniors too, with events scheduled weekly and monthly. Don’t forget that there’s also a lot to do in Villa Rica throughout the year, with concerts downtown and events and festivals each season. These include the annual July 3 Fireworks Extravaganza, west Georgia’s best Independence Day celebration, held at the V-Plex. For information about these, check out our city Facebook page and subscribe to our “City Happenings” weekly newsletter. On behalf of myself, the City Council, and the employees who keep our city great, I hope you will take advantage of all the things there are to see and do. There are a lot of great things happening, and our work for tomorrow continues today! *The information contained in this publi is subject to change without notice.
