Director’s Message Tracie Ivey

Welcome to The Purple Book, the go-to guide for all of your recreation happenings in Villa Rica. We at the recreation department welcome you as we embrace the new year in hopes of a bright and prosperous 2022. We are hopeful that you will find something that interests you and your family members in this book. 2022 will bring many opportunities for families to help make memories, establish friendships, and become a part of our recreation family. There are a few new things in store for families this year. When the weather warms, the city will open its first Splash Pad, located at Gold Dust Park. Our big celebration will come around Memorial Day. The Splash Pad was completed at the end of 2021 so it is shiny and brand new. Accompanying the water feature is a pavilion and restroom facility. This addition will make little ones and parents happy. We are excited to see the pad in use. We are offering the Little Nugget League for the first time this spring. The program is for 3-4 year olds to enjoy the early stages of learning to play a diamond sport. The league will be run in a co-ed format and will surely bring entire families to the ballpark to watch. Our registration link is located at the bottom of this letter and also on the Athletics page. We are always looking for good people who want to volunteer to teach our kids to play sports, so if you are interested, please let us know. Our staff is diligently working to develop more opportunities for the great families in Villa Rica. If you have a skill or hobby, along with a desire to share your knowledge with others, please contact us. We want to provide a catalog full of activities for all ages and interests, so please help us offer it.

FROM THE MAYOR GilMcDougal

Whether you’ve just moved to Villa Rica, or are a lifelong resident, this book is your guide to the many recreational activities available to you. From a new and modern library to baseball fields and basketball courts – as well as parks for walking, biking, or running – the city provides something for everyone, no matter how old or how young. The Villa Rica Public Library is one of our newest public landmarks, and a member of PINES and theWest Georgia Regional Library System. It’s a modern facility that not only features state-of-the-art reference materials but also weekly activities to help school students and parents keep their minds active and learning. But to keep you physically active, there are nine recreational facilities spread across the city, available to every neigh- borhood. This book will help you learn about the various athletic programs, such as karate, yoga, and tennis, that are provided at these facilities. There are lots of athletic programs for youth, especially fall soccer, cheerleading, football, baseball, softball, and basketball. And there’s lots for seniors too, with events scheduled weekly and monthly. Don’t forget that there’s also a lot to do in Villa Rica throughout the year, with concerts downtown and events and festivals each season. For information about these, take a look at our city Facebook page and subscribe to our “City Happenings”weekly newsletter. On behalf of myself, the City Council, and the employees who keep our city great, I hope you will take advantage of all the things there are to see and do. There are a lot of great things happening, and even more on the way. We are VR! *The information contained in this pub is subject to change without notice.
