CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
As Chairman of the Alabama Grocers Association, I would like to welcome you and your families to our 33rd Annual Show. This year we will be “Bringing Grocers to the Table” by fulfilling our mission statement of cultivating community within the grocery industry through networking experiences, educational seminars, and showcasing our Exhibit Hall while enjoying entertainment at the beautiful Sandestin Resort. I would like to thank Jack Carlile, our Convention Committee Chairman, his committee, and the entire AGA staff for their hard work planning this year’s event. Again, they have put together an excellent lineup of

speakers and entertainers that I am sure everyone will enjoy. I would also like to extend a special thank you to all our retail members, manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers, and other members for attending this year. Our schedule starts Monday morning with the registration desk opening from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm, along with breakfast from 7:00 am – 9:00 am. Exhibitors can begin setting up their booths from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm. Our Business Session will be held from 8:00 am – 10:45 am in the Azalea Ballroom. The session will include a National Legislative update with Congressman Robert Aderholt followed by Dr. Glenn Richey speaking on Revolutionizing the Grocery Industry with AI Innovations. We will finish the session with an Artificial Intelligence Panel. Monday night we will have the Welcome Dinner at 7:00 pm in the Azalea Ballroom with entertainment from The New Orleans Ramblers and wrap up the evening with the AGEF Fund the Future event. Our schedule for Tuesday morning starts with the registration desk opening from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm along with breakfast from 7:00 am – 9:00 am. Exhibitors can finish setting up their booths starting at 7:00 am – 10:30 am. Our Business Session will be held from 8:00 am – 11:00 am in the Azalea Ballroom. The session will include Close the Gap by Dr. Bruce Bright, Organized Retail Theft by Deputy Director Trisha Mellberg and Jeff Bradley, General Counsel for the Alabama Office of Prosecution Services. We will wrap up with Fighting What’s Different Differently by Rebecca Henshaw, Associate Partner, OC&C Strategy Consultants. There will be a packed house for Bingo and the Exhibit Hall Retailer & Wholesaler Networking Hour from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. The Exhibit Hall will be open to all attendees from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The Best Bagger Competition will be from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm followed by the Chairman’s Banquet and Casino Night from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. I hope you and your families enjoy the event and get to spend time with old friends and form new relationships that are truly helpful to your business. Welcome back to our Annual Show! Our 2024 Mardi Gras Party themed Convention is off to a great start. We want the convention to be a time for you to learn and grow in industry knowledge while providing time to relax, have fun and enjoy. KEYNOTE SPEAKER - NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
On January 7, 2023, Congressman Robert B. Aderholt took the oath of office to serve his 14th term representing Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District. Aderholt is a member of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, which has jurisdiction over funding the operation of the federal government. Congressman Aderholt serves as the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education. This subcommittee is responsible for the largest non defense portion of spending in the entire federal budget. Aderholt also serves as a member of the Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee and the Defense Subcommittee. As an advocate of fiscal responsibility, truth in budgeting, and a federal government that operates within its means, Aderholt tries to bring common-sense

solutions to the Appropriations Committee. Congressman Aderholt also serves as Chair of the Values Action Team. The Values Action Team (VAT) is a registered Congressional Member Organization in the House of Representatives focused on promoting families, communities, and religious freedoms. Aderholt also serves as a commission member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (commonly known as the Helsinki Commission). Founded in 1976, the Helsinki Commission is comprised of 56 countries around the world that together monitors human rights in Europe and Central Asia. A staunch supporter of his community, district, and the state of Alabama, Aderholt believes the federal government serves a critical role in assisting state and local projects regarding economic development. He continues to support pro-growth initiatives that create jobs, strong immigration standards, and robust national security. He also puts a strong emphasis on constituent services. Prior to his election to Congress, Aderholt served as Assistant Legal Advisor to Governor Fob James as well as Municipal Judge for the city of Haleyville, Alabama. Educated through Alabama's public school system, Aderholt went on to receive his B.A. from Birmingham Southern College and his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. Born on July 22, 1965, and raised in Alabama, Aderholt and his wife, Caroline, have their residence in Haleyville. Their daughter Mary Elliott works for a consulting firm in Washington and son Robert Hayes attends Auburn University.

BUSINESS SESSION SPEAKERS CONTINUED REVOLUTIONIZING THE GROCERY INDUSTRY WITH AI INNOVATIONS
Glenn Richey is the Harbert Eminent Scholar in the Department of Supply Chain Management and research director at the Center for Supply Chain Innovation (CSCI) at Auburn University. His role is to help advance supply chain management research and outreach in the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University. Richey engages in industry-based research and enjoys building research and student relationships between academia and practice. In addition to his formal education, Richey has an executive certificate in international business from the University of South Carolina. Before entering academia, Richey worked for ten years in managerial positions across several functional areas, including procurement, sales, retail consulting, finishing/manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics/supply chain operations for two companies: Scott Paper Company and Genuine Parts Company.
DR. GLENN RICHEY Auburn University
Richey has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals since 2001. He has won numerous awards for his research, including the Cavusgil Award for the best contribution to international marketing in the Journal of International Marketing and the LaLonde Award for the best contribution to supply chain management and logistics in the Journal of Business Logistics. Richey has also been awarded multiple graduate and undergraduate teaching awards. He received the Outstanding Faculty Award for teaching at the Harbert College of Business and the University of Alabama’s top teaching award—the National Alumni Association Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award. Richey has taught across six continents as a visiting professor and research associate at many universities including BEM Dakar (Senegal), Bilkent University (Turkey), Bond University (Australia), Donghua University (China), University of Ghent (Belgium), Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), KEDGE (Bordeaux and Marseilles, France), Koç University (Turkey), Mediterranean School of Business (Tunisia), Toulouse Business School (France & Barcelona), University of Bath (UK), University of Edinburgh (Scotland), and University of Zagreb (Croatia). He has led study abroad and executive trips to countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Chile, China, Columbia, Croatia, Greece, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, and Turkey. Richey currently is the Editor-in-Chief at the Journal of Business Logistics (with Dr. Beth Davis Sramek) and an Associate Editor at the Journal of Supply Chain Management. Richey received Emerald Publishing’s Leading Editor Award as co-editor of IJPDLM (with Dr. Alex Ellinger) in 2013. He has served on several editorial review boards, including Decision Sciences, Journal of World Business, Industrial Marketing Management, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management (IJPDLM), and International Journal of Logistics Management. He is a past senior and associate editor at Decision Sciences and the Journal of World Business. His industry service efforts extend across many state, local, and national organizations. When taking a break from his job, Richey enjoys travel and downtime with his wife (Suzanne), his sons (Rob & Max), and a pair of too-active border collies.

Jonathan Alexander, Global Business Director at Mercatus, is a seasoned professional in both digital commerce and business development. With experience at Instacart, Rosie, American Express, and IBM, he is dedicated to empowering independent grocers with cutting-edge technology and marketing solutions. Inspired by Hippocrates, he aims to make healthy food accessible to all. Jonathan's mission is to help independent grocers compete with larger chains through digital transformation of their customer engagement through eCommerce, fulfillment, personalization, and loyalty programs with Mercatus.

Matt Ellis spearheads the Account Management team for Local Independent Grocery at Instacart. He enjoys the unique opportunity to collaborate with a range of esteemed independent retailers including Piggly Wiggly and Mitchell Grocery in Alabama, as well as Little Giant Farmers Market, Renfroe’s, Reynolds Foodliner, Brooks Grocery, and JTM Corp, amongst others. Matt's diverse experience and deep understanding of both retail and technology enable him to effectively support and grow these partnerships. Matt Ellis began in the advertising and merchandising sectors at Family Dollar and Lowes Foods, where he spent seven years gaining invaluable retail experience. Matt then pivoted to the retail technology and consulting field, contributing his expertise in sales, account management, and consulting at prominent firms such as Dunnhumby and NielsenIQ. Originally from North Carolina, Matt now resides in Charleston, SC.

FIGHTING WHAT’S DIFFERENT DIFFERENTLY – RETENTION IN THE GROCERY FRONTLINE
Trisha Mellberg Cater earned her B.S. degree from Samford University in 1998 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2002. Upon graduation, she began working as an Assistant District Attorney in the 15th Judicial Circuit of Alabama where she specialized in child sexual and physical abuse cases. She was also a member of the Montgomery County Child Death Review Team, Children’s Justice Task Force and Child Protect Multidisciplinary Team. In 2006, she was awarded the 2006-2007 Prosecutor of the Year Award by Governor Bob Riley on behalf of Victims of Crime and Leniency (VOCAL). In 2021, she was awarded the VOCAL 2020 2021 Crime Victim Service Award. In May of 2010, Mrs. Cater joined the Office of Prosecution Services as the Sex Offender Resource Prosecutor for the State of Alabama. In 2018, she became the Deputy Director of the Alabama District Attorneys Association and the Office of Prosecution services. Her duties included writing and managing grants, training prosecutors and Rebecca Henshaw is an Associate Partner at OC&C Strategy Consultants, based out of New York, with a focus on Retail and Leisure strategy. She has advised clients across the retail landscape, with a particular focus on advising grocery clients across the US and Europe on a range of strategic planning and commercial topics including: range optimization, labor models and SG&A, customer experience, space, brand strategy and NPD, merger synergies, and beyond. Recently, OC&C has partnered with the Coca-Cola Regional Retail Council in North America, working with grocery executives on the topic of frontline retention. She will be presenting findings of their report, which includes a review of the state of worker retention in the US and what initiatives companies can be taking to work to improve these metrics. law enforcement, handling cases throughout the State, and writing legislation. In 2023, she assisted in the passage of the Retail Theft Prevention Act. On May 1, 2024, Mrs. Cater became the Executive Director of the Alabama District Attorneys Association and the Office of Prosecution services.
Jeff Bradley is the General Counsel for the Alabama Office of Prosecution Services where he provides research, education, and support services for all 42 Alabama District Attorney offices and law enforcement throughout the state. In his role as General Counsel, he drafted and amended legislative bills, testified before the Alabama Legislature, and played a key role in drafting the Alabama Retail Theft Crime Prevention Act of 2023. Mr. Bradley has previously served as an Assistant District Attorney and Managing Assistant District Attorney at the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, as the prosecutor for the Shelby County Drug Court, Mental Health Court, and Veteran’s Treatment Court, supervised the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Taskforce, and Deputy District Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit, Jefferson County. Mr. Bradley received his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and Master Degree in Public Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his Law Degree from the Birmingham School of Law.

On Target Leading was founded by Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Bright, USMC (Ret.). Bruce has a strong desire to help and encourage people using the experiences and lessons he has learned in business, in the service, and in life. He founded On Target Leading with the goal of motivating others through coaching, training seminars, and speaking events. Prior to founding On Target Leading, Bruce spent 28 years in service with the U.S. Marine Corps. His service includes four years as a Marine Infantryman and 24 years as a Marine F/A18 Fighter Pilot. He served as Commanding Officer for VMFA-212 in Iwakuni, Japan and also logged over 3,000 flight hours, 371 carrier landings, and two combat tours in the Middle East.

After a notable career in the U.S. Marine Corps, Bruce retired in 2007 and traded in his flight suit for a business suit. He joined the civilian workforce as Director of Business Development at a commercial real estate investment firm in Birmingham, AL. There, he earned the prestigious designation of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) and was recognized as an expert in the disciplines of commercial and investment real estate while being involved in over $100 million in investment transactions. Bruce quickly realized his true passion was for helping people succeed. In 2010, as a Certified Professional Coach, Bruce became the Founder and Chief Energy Officer of On Target Leading, a peak performance leadership coaching firm for business executives and their companies. In 2014, Bruce added health and wellness coaching to offer executive clients more avenues for success. Always an entrepreneur, Bruce also runs an aircraft management business. He is a big believer in life-long learning and encourages others to do the same. Dr. Bright is a Certified Myer’s-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Administrator as well as a Certified Energy Leadership Coach. In 2018, he earned his PhD. in Industrial & Organizational Psychology. And in 2022, Dr. Bright put the finishing touches on publishing his first book, 1300 Saturdays, which is a detailed illustration of how to effectively use and control your energy levels to live the life you want to live.
