Our devotion to food and music, second line traditions, and a perfect cocktail or two elevates the occasion with unmatched ambience and charm. It's no wonder that New Orleans is the top destination city for weddings of all kinds. In the past year or so, I've been to a lavish wedding at the New Orleans Museum of Art, two old school receptions at venerable French Quarter restaurants, and a funky backyard event with twinkling lights dripping from magnolia trees. I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite. Each oozed with so much personality, patina and bling, and an unmatchable joie de vivre. That's a New Orleans wedding and that's how lucky we are.

OLIVIA & ZACHARY Old World Charm Meets Modern Elegance

S t. Mary's Church at the Old Ursuline Convent in the French Quarter was the very first venue that Olivia Millet and Zachary Loupe considered when planning their wedding. "My mom went to Ursuline and I'd heard of the convent, but had never seen it," Olivia explains. "The minute we walked into the church, we knew that this was where we would be married." For a young couple with a deep respect for tradition and a love for the city's rich history, this stunning old world location afforded them the opportunity to bring a youthful sensibility to one of the oldest buildings in the city, if not the country. "We loved the modern feel of having the ceremony and reception all in one place. And the indoor and outdoor options — guests entering the church in dazzling daylight and then walking to the convent to dance under the stars — was a dream come true," says Olivia. "I come from a family of designers and creators, so the 'blank slate' of the convent courtyards and formal gardens was so appealing. We wanted to plan a wedding weekend immersed in the romantic allure of the French Quarter resplendent with our own personal touches." And so it began. Family friend

Laura Bordelon painted a watercolor of the convent which The Queen Bee in Baton Rouge used for save the dates and Scriptura incorporated into invitations and programs. Olivia and her mom, Monette Romair Millet, then turned their attention to wedding fashion and décor, which in turn informed the overall aesthetic for everything from bridal accessories to floral design to a carefully curated reception.
As a buyer and stylist for Chatta Box Boutique, the fashion- forward company her grandmother founded in 1962, Olivia is accustomed to visualizing how runway silhouettes will translate to real life red carpets. While out to dinner one night, she simply scanned the shows from New York's Bridal Fashion Week and confidently chose an all-over Chantilly lace Monique Lhuillier gown. Done and done. The dress features an accentuated sweetheart neckline, soft barely pink underlay, and a dramatic sculpted circular skirt. Her custom cathedral length veil is trimmed with the same romantic ivory lace and the fitted top was added a week before the wedding. before the wedding, the stylist in me envisioned a well- tailored coverlet that could be removed for the reception — something with a high mock turtleneck and statement sleeves. So my mom and I quickly designed it." For hair and makeup, Olivia went with elegant simplicity. "The ceremony was at three, so I wanted a fresh, polished look that would work well from day into evening." A classic low bun was the perfect counterpoint to the regal and extravagant dress. During the wedding weekend, the bride and her party settled into the Windsor Court while Zachary and the men enjoyed Hotel Provincial, a hidden gem tucked away in a residential section of the quarter. Bridesmaids donned blush pink Marchesa Notte gowns embellished with whimsical chiffon flowers and groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos with creamy rose and Star of Bethlehem boutonnieres. Deanie's Seafood Restaurant shucked oysters for a raw and chargrilled oyster bar and Ralph Brennan Catering presented old school favorites like seafood gumbo along with unexpected twists like chilled champagne over hot pink cotton candy. A five tier layer cake and groom's carnival king cake, both from Zoe's Bakery, were showstoppers of the night. From a rehearsal dinner at Galatoire's to the Phunky Monkeys bringing down the house to Olivia exiting in a white leather rocker-chic jacket from her shop, Olivia and Zach's wedding was a luminous, of-the- moment experience that honored timeless traditions while creating memorable new ones.

OH HAPPY DAY!

C hris Ralph and Alex Breaux always knew they would get married in New Orleans. The couple first met at Tulane University in 2012. Chris, from Michigan, was a freshman and Alex, from New Iberia, was a senior. After five years of dating, the two became engaged in April 2017 and began to plan their nuptials, which took place on November 10, 2018. Although the couple had relocated to Denver (Chris works in finance and Alex is a geologist), planning the big event from afar wasn't an issue for the two, as they had time on their sides and made frequent trips back to New Orleans. "We knew exactly what we wanted going into it, which made things easier," Chris says. Some of those requirements were a reception on the Bayou (the couple lived on Moss Street for three years), tasty Louisiana fare, and great company. "We wanted something fun, but in formalwear," Alex explains. "It couldn't be stuffy."

The pair worked with Margaret Jones of Scriptura to create the invitations, which featured an illustration of their venue, the Pitot House. They called on iMonelli, a Lafayette restaurant serving Italian-inspired South Louisiana cuisine, to cater. Chris and Alex already owned their tuxedos and they preferred to keep the florals to a minimum, opting for lush greenery instead. They were able to secure Sexy Luv, a band that can play just about anything, for the reception. Family and friends arrived to New Orleans from New Iberia, California, Michigan, and New York, and gathered the evening before at Bayou Beer Garden for a welcome party. On Saturday afternoon, close friends and family congregated at City Park for the intimate ceremony, which was officiated by Chris and Alex's friend Laura. "As soon as she concluded, Chris's stepdad did a Champagne sabrage and we did a toast," Alex recalls. Following the vows and glasses of bubbly, the group proceeded to Pal's Lounge — a

familiar and favored spot of the two — to catch up with friends before the reception, which was one of the couple's most memorable moments of the night. "It was really laid back and nice to decompress in between being 'on' in both locations." Next up, the party at the Pitot House. The historic home had always been their venue of choice and was the perfect backdrop for the big day. The group mingled, ate, and danced under a clear tent, which was decorated with simple string lights, taper candles, and tall leafy centerpieces. From enjoying iMonelli's praline chicken to a surprise
fireworks display (courtesy of NOMA's Odyssey Ball, which was happening simultaneously), the evening was an apparent success. Chris and Alex spent time onstage with the band, as did Alex's father who — a natural performer by all accounts — stole the show. The dance floor was consistently full and when the reception was over, the party continued. Led by the Young Pin Stripe Brass Band in a second line, the grooms and their guests boarded a streetcar and enjoyed the ride to the French Quarter for continued revelry.
