von Goeth once said, “Give me the benefit of your convictions, if you have any; but keep your doubts to yourself, for I have enough of my own.” 3 Addressing wisdom and prayer specifically, James writes, “But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For the man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a dou ble-minded man, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-8). Gehazi could certainly be described as double-minded, as we’ll see even more clearly in a later chapter. Food for the students- Despite Gehazi’s protest, distribution of the food went on as directed. The crowd was fed, with food to spare, just like with the aforementioned lad and his lunch of loaves and fishes. I mentioned in chapter three that George Mueller cared for thousands of orphans during the course of his ministry. On one occasion, the housemother came to Mueller with some bad news, “The children are dressed and ready for school. But there is no food for them to eat.” After instructing the housemother to take and seat the 300 children in the dining room, he thanked God and waited. He knew God would provide as always. Soon, a baker knocked at the door, “Mr. Mueller,” he said, “last night I could not sleep. Somehow I knew that you would need bread this morning. I got up and baked three batches for you, I will bring it in.” Minutes later, the milkman knocked at the door. His cart had broken down in front of the orphanage. The milk would have spoiled by the time the wheel was repaired. He asked Mueller if he could use some milk. Mueller smiled as the milkman brought in ten large containers of milk, just the right amount for the chil dren. 4 If that sounds unbelievable, remember the words of Gabriel to Mary, “For nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).
