Robie Cochran has worked for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for 12 ½ years. He worked uniform patrol for 7 ½ years and responded to numerous crisis calls involving individuals with mental illness. Cochran then transferred and helped to develop and grow the Crisis Intervention Response Unit where he assists in responding to and caring for individuals having behavioral health crises. He Co-Responds with a licensed clinician to de-escalate and link individuals to resources.

Cochran is the CIT coordinator for ACCPD and currently sits on the State CIT Advisory Board and co-responder committee. In 2016 Advantage Behavioral Health named him their Community Partner of the Year and he was named the 2017 NAMI Georgia CIT Officer of the Year. He has also received the Chief’s Leadership and Innovation in Policing Award. Cochran is a trained Crisis Negotiator and serves on the ACCPD Negotiation Team. He’s also a POST Certified Instructor and teaches many topics including: Integrating Communication Assessment and Tactics (ICAT), and SAMHSA GAINS “How Being Trauma Informed Improves Criminal Justice Outcomes”.
