“POETRY BREAK”

OVERVIEW:

Poetry Break is an excellent program for lovers of poetry that allows an entity like a public library in a local community to facilitate the poetic expressions of local poets and those who want to become a poet. In 2022, the Villa Rica Library decided to regularly reserve one of the library’s rooms for the sharing of poetry. The goal at that time was to increase the interest in poetry, increase the reading of poetry and to let the community know about the poetry books that can be found in the library. Local poet and author Frank Clay, Jr. first took the initiative to start a poetry group at the Villa Rica Library. The goal of this publication is to inspire other libraries and communities to adopt a similar poetry program and offer insights for how to start a Poetry Break program. Secondly, the goal is to highlight and share the unique poetic works of some of the participants in the Vi l la Rica Library program organically called: “Poetry Break!” The thought should be that we all could use a “Poetry Break!” A time to embrace and enjoy poetry in its authentic and unique expressions in an open and informal listening environment.
