CHAPTER ONE
THE BIRTH OF “POETRY BREAK”
Frank Clay, Jr., a self-published poet, is the visionary behind “Poetry Break,” a poetry program launched at the Villa Rica Library. His idea was simple yet profound: “once a month at the library, take a moment to pause from our hectic lives and immerse ourselves in authentic poetry. A group of local poets would set aside an hour where the authors could read their own poetry to the general public. To bring this vision to life, Frank collaborated closely with the library’s manager, Dr. Rachel Linn. They engaged in productive discussions to outline the essentials required for the poetry program to be named “Poetry Break. ” on determining a suitable time and space within the library for the program. Knowing it would take a little time to get it started, a commitment of 6 months was agreed to. It was also decided that the library would promote the program on the library calendar and on various other social media platforms to engage the wider reading & listening audience. Dr. Linn recognized the demand for a poetry program at the library would be a strong possibility which led to the library’s commitment to host the poetry program to be called, “Poetry Break” monthly on the last Tuesday of each month.
