Janet Oglesby – Head Coach Coach Janet Oglesby is entering her 17th year at South Paulding High School where she started the program in 2006. Under Oglesby’s helms, the Spartans have finished region runner-up three times and advanced to the state tournament ten of the last eleven years, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen four times. The Spartans had their best finish in school history in 2012 as they advanced to the Elite Eight and finished tied for 5th place in the state. Prior to starting the Spartan program, she served as the head coach at Harrison High School for eleven years where her team finished state runner-up twice and captured the 2000 AAAAA State Championship. While at Harrison, Coach Oglesby was awarded many honors, including AAAAA Georgia Coach of the Year, Cobb County Coach of the Year and Region Coach of the Year. She has also coached in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association and Georgia Dugout Club All-Star games. In 2015, Coach Oglesby was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame, and in 2020 she was inducted into the Harrison High School Hall of Fame. She is a graduate of Fayette County High School, where she is a member of the FCHS Hall of Fame and played college softball at Georgia Southern University. While at Georgia Southern, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing. She completed her graduate work at Georgia State University, earning a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration. After working in college athletics, Coach Oglesby then attended Kennesaw State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education and served as an assistant softball coach. She recently completed her Ed.S. in Coaching Ped agogy in Physical Education from Valdosta State University. She was chosen as the SPHS Teacher of the Year in 2020-2021 where her teaching responsibilities include Personal Fitness, Health, and Sports Medicine. Coach Oglesby and her husband John have two children, Kalin and Jake who are both SPHS alumni. Charlie Beecham - JV Head Coach/Varsity Assistant Coach Coach Beecham enters his fourth year as an assistant coach with the Spartan Softball Program and will also serve as the Head JV Coach. He was born in Cleveland, TN, and raised in Cedartown, GA, where he graduated from Cedartown High School. He served in the United States Army from 1984-1995, serving all over the world. Coach Beecham earned a B.S. in Middle Grades Social Studies and Science from the University of West Georgia. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Jacksonville State University. He earned an Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum from Piedmont College. He taught at Stewart Middle School from 2002-2003, South Pauld ing Middle School from 2003-2015, Carrollton Junior High School from 2015-2017, and Scoggins Middle School from 2017-present. Coach Beecham has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Science, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies, and Physical Education and was named the Scoggins Teacher of the Year for 2020-2021. His coaching experience includes Head Coach Junior High Tennis (boys and girls), Head Coach Junior High School Swimming (boys and girls), Head Coach 7th grade Football at South Paulding Middle School, Assistant Middle School Football Coach (Linebackers and Receivers), and Assistant Middle School Softball Coach. He has also served as Assistant Soccer Coach, 9th grade Head Football Coach, and Varsity Assistant Football Coach at South Paulding High School. Coach Beecham and his wife of twenty-three years, Jennifer, have two children, Zachary a senior at the University of Georgia, and Emily a sophomore at the University of Georgia. He enjoys playing golf and reading. Johnny Barnett – Assistant Coach Coach Barnett joins the Spartan staff this year after coaching in our Junior Spartan feeder program and serving other roles in our Spartan family. He was born and raised in Mableton, Georgia and graduated from Pebblebrook High School in 1988. He then went to Southern Poly Tech to play baseball but decided to begin his work career. Coach Barnett went into the industrial, medical, scientific gas, and welding business in 1991 and has spent 31 years in this industry. During this time, Coach Barnett taught Taekwondo for over five years, retiring from that sport in 2002. In 2011, he began coaching recreational softball which led to a coaching opportunity in our feeder softball program here at SPHS, where in 2018, he coached our Silver team to the Metro Silver Championship. Coach Barnett has served many roles in our booster club throughout the years in addition to his coaching. When he is not on the softball field, he enjoys running, weightlifting, and golf. He and his wife, Karan, have been mar ried for 30 years and have four daughters, Haylee, Emily, Hannah, and Hope.
