“I have healed this water” (2 Kings 2:21).
********
I n an effort to save money, the city of Flint, Michigan switched its drinking water source from the Detroit River/Lake Huron to the Flint River in April,2014.When people began to complain about the taste, smell, and appearance of the water from this new supply, officials discovered that some 100,000 residents were being exposed to elevated lead levels. Because those in charge failed to apply corrosion inhibitors to the new supply, leaching in the aging pipes escalated, creating a major health crisis. And though Flint switched back to the Detroit system in October 2015 for its water source, the issue continues to linger. Long before the Flint water crisis, came the Jericho water crisis. It sprang up immediately after Elijah’s transport to heaven, allowing Elisha the opportunity to establish himself as a man of God. He would now be able to demonstrate the double portion of his mentor’s spirit in him at work.As we examine the verses for this chapter, 2 Kings 2:19-21, note first the problems faced.
